DB Wood’s Annual Static Bike Ride

It’s been a week since our annual Static Bike Ride and the moans about thigh aches and pains from our team have finally begun to ease. I don’t blame them though. I’m surprised they’ve managed to return to walking normally so quickly, given the amount of effort exerted by all throughout the 11 hours they were cycling! We managed to hit an incredible distance of 600km which, as you can imagine, wasn’t easy to accomplish. A special shout out goes to team Crampton-Jenkins (Oliver and Evie), who between them, managed to accomplish 65.8km in an hour!

Second place went to CEO Ashley Brooks and his son/teammate Alex Brooks, otherwise known as MarzMedia on YouTube. Together they hit 65km, which is a fantastic achievement; especially if you stop to consider the fact Alex slowed down periodically to talk to his fans who came to support him during his stint.

Whilst we had clear skies and sunshine during the morning, throughout the afternoon we had some spells of rain and even a flash of thunder and lightning. Being on electrical bikes we had to do the Hokey Cokey, dragging the bikes in and then out, in and then back out, all while time was running out to hit the 600km target. With the battle of the elements happening outside, prosecco and cake was offered to those seeking shelter from the rain, along with a little bit of history of the building.

The best bit… we managed to raise a total that equates to just short of £1per minute of cycling. £513.31 to be exact, all for the Children’s Bereavement Centre. This is a local charity which offers support to children, to help with the loss of someone close. A big thank you goes to everyone who came down to support us and donated, both on the day or through our Just Giving page. We are still accepting online donations if you’re feeling particularly generous…

All that’s left to do now is to plan how to make next year even better. We are already looking forward to seeing you all there!
