Team Update and Charity News…
Don’t stop us now…
Running seems to have become quite a part of the DB Wood culture in recent times. We have seen one of our team complete three half-marathons in six weeks, another run his first full marathon in Stockholm, and we are all now limbering up for our second attempt at the “MoRun” at Wollaton Park in November. We aren’t quite sprinting between meetings yet, but it’s been great to see fitness continue to become a core part of the work-life balance.
Last month we entered a team into the Robin Hood Half Marathon. I don’t need to spend much time describing the main event (the name kind of gives it away), but the day also included a 1.5 mile “sprint” race. The differential was great, as keen runners entered the long one, and those who hadn’t run much before could start in the smaller one. The training regime sounded intense for some, with one of our team even running too fast for their own running machine! Then on the day, after adding the top two times together from each event, Team DB finished 7th out of 27 – quite an achievement!
Training will now continue in preparation for next months “MoRun” (well, once Neil Holmes replaces his running machine) where we will be donning our moustaches to raise funds for various charities. Last year we achieved 3rd place in the team event, so we’ve thrown the gauntlet down to try and beat that!
Be Blue for Beaumond House
The 3rd – 9th October was Hospice Care week and ‘Be Bright Blue for Beaumond House’. As you may be aware, Beaumond House is a local community hospice supporting people from the Newark and surrounding areas – they are also our nominated charity of the year for 2016.
If you drove past Potterdyke House at nightfall, you may have noticed the building awash with bright blue – if I do say so myself it was pretty impressive. Our staff also supported a blue-themed dress down day, with all contributions helping the charity further. By far the best outfit was sported by Dominic Harrison, who completed the day as a blue crayon. Luckily it wasn’t a hot day, otherwise he may have been wax lyrical about it…
40 press-ups for 40 years
The fortieth week of our press-up extravaganza arrived in earnest, and after 39 weeks of build-up, our team managed the forty per day required to complete the challenge. It’s amazing to think in January we started with one per day, slowly building to the ultimate target. To date we have pressed a total of 20,500, increasing the average DB Wood tricep by at least 3cm!
Sponsoring the Newark Business Awards
We are delighted to announce that we will be sponsoring the “Customer Service Award” at the Newark Business Awards on 9th December. The event is run on an annual basis to celebrate business excellence in Newark, and on this occasion we will also be involved in judging all categories. Customer service is something we pride ourselves on, so in-line with our strapline “Centered around you”, this felt like the perfect sponsorship opportunity.
