Home is where the heart is…

For several of us here at DB Wood, Newark-on-Trent has been home for many years. For DB Wood itself, it’s been home for the better part of 40. Our footprint reaches back to acquiring a small office in the Market Place in 2000, stretching then over to Stodman Street, to finally making the big leap over to Lombard Street in 2016.

Our roots within Newark run deep and shall hopefully continue to grow as time passes. We love watching our local town flourish and as we strive to continually become better, helping our community do the same is a great enthusiasm of ours.

In previous years we’ve held our static bike rides to raise money for two long standing charities; Beaumond House and the Children’s Bereavement Centre, and we continue to support them by, albeit not successfully, taking part in their annual Dragon Boat Race. We are taking this one step further as we head into 2022 by becoming the headline sponsor for the Newark Half Marathon. A longstanding event that supports these two prominent charities, and we hope our involvement can help excel participants experience and push to make it better than ever before.

Our newest endeavour also sees us becoming a key part of the local committee for Cancer Research UK. A cause that I’m sure we can all attest to being near and dear to our hearts, and with that, is something that we’re very proud to be supporting. Our first opportunity was to bring local companies together in a bit of healthy competition to take part in a Go Karting Tournament which stretched across the whole of October and heading into November. We started off with 12 teams, who slugged it out on the track, a few bumps and scrapes along the way, to finally have one victorious team. Ann et Vin, an icon of Newark in more ways than one now can add Go Karting Champions to their list of accolades which was very well deserved. Most importantly though we’d like to thank all the teams that took part and helped support a great cause raising almost £2,000. As I’m sure you can see from the photo, a certain member of the DB Wood team maybe wish they’d done a little better… he’ll get another chance in 2022!

Right now though, our focus is on surpassing the amount raised and directing our efforts into an event that continues to champion local businesses while also offering attendees a spectacular night. The DB Wood Winter Ball in aid of Cancer Research UK promises to be this exactly. Hosted at the Farndon Ferry on the 29th January, we are offering guests the opportunity to help in contributing to something vital, all with a drink in hand, their favourite song playing and their appetites sated from an exceptional meal.

We are giving local businesses, big and small, the chance to also take part by donating a prize for one the many fundraising games we’ll be offering on the evening. Whether this be one of their services or products or even something completely unrelated, their generosity will be highlighted throughout the evening, further promoting what makes Newark great. Tickets for the event are still available, though selling fast if you’d like to attend, or if you’re reading this and fancy donating to the cause then please feel free to get in touch.

For our many clients who are out of town, we hope you can appreciate our commitments to our local area, in many ways our decision to support cancer research was to embrace a national charity, and so as always we are nothing without our clients and our team, so a big thank you to all concerned!
