A Review of 2020…

It is difficult to know where to start this year, however the declaration of have a ‘Happy New Year!’ will have more meaning this year than in many other years, given the context of where we have all been during 2020!

Whilst it has been a hugely challenging year, I have been overwhelmed by our excellent team at DB Wood. In particular their demonstration of many qualities; notably their adaptability to the sudden change within their working environment from March onwards and their commitment to their own high service standards, particularly as core investment markets fell by over 35% from February to March. They have demonstrated a clear understanding as to why we do what we do. At times of turbulence and uncertainty, there is an even greater responsibility to provide honest, clear advice and ensure we help promote and maintain a wide perspective.

The key to our business is of course our clients. Our end game is to make our clients’ money work for them so they can live the lives they want to lead. It might sound a little cheesy however, in essence, that is what we do. It is a privilege for our business to be given that responsibility and from that perspective at the end of 2020 our client portfolios show positive returns across the 6 risk profiles, each one being currently in advance of their respective industry benchmark for the risks taken. Though there is often no finish line, we have now outperformed our benchmarks in 8 years of the last 10. Of course, planning and investing is not a short-term game and so we hope you are as delighted as we are with the consistency of the journey we have provided over many years.

As we close 2020 and look forward to 2021, we know that our team as a collective are committed to raising the bar again in 2021. One of our central objectives is to strive for continual improvement and as such we have several enhancements to services that we are sure will have a positive effect for clients. We look forward together; both as a team and together with our clients. We will raise a glass to the back of 2020, take the experiences on board, and gear up ready for the challenges that stand before us in 2021.
