DB News Update September 2019

I know what you’re thinking. It’s that time of year again. Summer is coming to an end; the kids are back at school… and DB Wood are taking part in another charity event. Usually at this point in the year we would be taking it in twos, pedalling our hearts out on static bikes, shaking buckets at the side of our building. However, this year we are doing something slightly different…. a dragon boat race!

Now if you’re anything like us, right about now you’re asking “what the heck is a dragon boat race?!”. Well it’s exactly what it says on the tin. Simply put, it’s 10 people sat in a big boat shaped like a dragon, racing against other people in other big boats, also shaped like dragons. Our next question (which funnily enough came from the 10 people who will be rowing) is “WHY on earth are we doing this?!”.

If you’re local to Newark, you will have seen the giant banners advertising this event all around the town. In fact, we happen to have one right outside of our building. What makes this race so special is that it is a fundraising event in which two prominent local charities are working together to raise money. Beaumond House and The Children’s Bereavement Centre have organised the whole event in unification, so it wasn’t something we could pass up, especially as these two charities are central to the charitable donations we drum up during the year.

The event will be taking place this upcoming Sunday (15th September), from 10am – 5pm at the Riverside Park in Newark, on the opposite side of the river to the castle… our first race is 11am. So as well as the opportunity to come and have a giggle watching our team struggle along the river, there will also be plenty of food stalls, live local entertainment as well as a bouncy castle and even slime making for the younger ones. Any familiar faces we see on the day will be massively appreciated, so we hope to see some of you there! If you’d like more information on the event, feel free to look at the website HERE.

Onto other news from DB Wood; we are thrilled to be welcoming back one of our previous interns, Ecaterina Armeanu. Kat was an intern of ours for the summer of 2018, and during her time here she quickly developed a keen interest in the technical and financial planning side of the business. She has returned to us to complete her placement for the next 12 months and fine tune the raw talent she demonstrated in these areas, hopefully following other interns and paving the way for her future career here.

Speaking of progression, we are always very proud and keen to recognise the professional development within our team. To this end, Alex Chappell, Joel Rollitt, Dominic Harrison and Daniel Zemontas, have all added vocational qualifications to their respective lockers over the last month with success across different core areas of our business. It is important to recognise the successes of our education and development programme, which has the ultimate aim of enhancing our client outcomes and experiences, as well as aiding personal development. Education is just one component though, as success also depends on developing the right core values and is supported by a robust work ethic. As always, the hard work continues on all fronts. Bring on the Dragon Boat!
